There are many ways to effect change and all of the ?tools in the toolbox? should be considered in order to realise the goals. Still, you wouldn?t necessarily use a screwdriver to get a nail into a piece of wood, or, even more subtly: you wouldn?t use a power screwdriver to repair a pair of glasses.
At grassroots level, putting a group together, determining priorities, and then getting the message out is generally the first step in changing things. Once you have a group and a public profile, decision-makers will sit up and take notice, and you will be able to exercise influence, which is dealt with in the second part of this handbook.
